Why MedStaff for locums

Coverage from the firm that already knows your permanent searches

MedStaff Locum Tenens is the interim coverage arm of MedStaff Nationwide. The same recruiters who run your permanent searches know which providers are open to assignments, which means coverage starts from a warm bench rather than a cold post.

Every assignment runs on a written Work Order that mirrors our client agreement: bill rate, guaranteed hours, premium and call rates, travel and lodging, and dates, accepted electronically by both sides before anyone travels. Timesheets, approvals, and invoices live in the same client portal you already use.

When interim coverage should become a permanent hire, conversion terms are already in the agreement, and our permanent placement team can run the search in parallel.

Coverage we provide

Vacancy coverage

Keep the schedule full while a permanent search runs. Pair with our permanent placement practice to convert the locum or fill behind them.

Leave coverage

Parental, medical, military, and sabbatical leave with a provider credentialed before the leave begins.

Surge and seasonal demand

Flu season, program launches, and census spikes without adding permanent headcount.

Program continuity

Behavioral health, primary care, and hospital medicine coverage that keeps access to care and revenue intact.

How it works

Specialty, dates, schedule, setting, and any facility-specific requirements, captured in one call with your coordinator.

02

Review two or three providers

You receive profile cards for credentialed providers who match. Interview if you want to, then choose.

03

Sign the Work Order

A written rate confirmation with bill rate, guaranteed hours, premium and call rates, travel and lodging terms, and dates. Both sides accept electronically.

04

Credentialing file in five business days

Primary-source verified licenses, DEA, board certification, and certificate of insurance delivered to your medical staff office.

05

FAQ

Locum tenens, answered

What is locum tenens staffing?
Locum tenens staffing places a credentialed physician or advanced practice provider at your facility for a defined period to cover a vacancy, leave, or surge in demand. MedStaff Locum Tenens sources the provider, handles credentialing and malpractice, and manages scheduling, timesheets, and invoicing for the assignment.
How does locum tenens pricing work?
Every assignment is confirmed on a written Work Order that states the bill rate, guaranteed hours, any premium or call rates, and travel and lodging terms before the provider starts. You are invoiced for approved hours on a bi-weekly or monthly cycle. There are no fees before an assignment is confirmed.
Is malpractice coverage included?
Yes. Locum providers placed by MedStaff Locum Tenens are covered by professional liability insurance for the assignment, and a certificate of insurance is delivered with the credentialing file.
How fast can you deliver a credentialing file?
Our client agreement commits to delivering the credentialing file to your medical staff office within five business days of a confirmed assignment. Every credential is primary-source verified with evidence attached, so your medical staff office is reviewing a complete file, not chasing documents.
Can a locum provider convert to a permanent hire?
Yes. Locum-to-permanent conversion is written into the client agreement, and MedStaff Nationwide's permanent placement practice can run the search in parallel if you want a long-term hire alongside interim coverage.
What if we need to cancel or shorten an assignment?
Cancellation and early-termination terms are set out in the agreement by notice period, so there are no surprises. Your coordinator walks through them before the Work Order is signed.
