Primary Care Recruitment

Primary care searches are won on lifestyle, panel, and support, and lost when any of those is vague. MedStaff Nationwide recruits family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatric physicians and primary care nurse practitioners for outpatient groups, community health centers, rural programs, and health system networks.

Our primary care practice

Where we are placing primary care clinicians right now

Every primary care search starts with the questions candidates ask first: schedule, call, patients per day, APP supervision, loan repayment eligibility, and the path to partnership or leadership.

MedStaff Nationwide is currently running 136 active primary care clinician searches across 28 states, including Boston, Chicago, San Jose, and Southampton. Posted compensation on those searches ranges from $22k–$450k.

What makes primary care recruiting different

The pool is shrinking

Fewer residents choose primary care each year while demand keeps growing. Passive recruiting through direct outreach, not postings, is where the candidates are.

Relocation is the real hurdle

Spouse careers, schools, and licensing timelines sink more primary care searches than salary. We surface them in the first call.

Loan repayment changes the math

NHSC and state loan repayment eligibility can outweigh base salary for the right candidate. We know which of your sites qualify and recruit accordingly.

FAQ

Primary Care recruiting, answered

How are primary care recruiting fees structured?
Contingency. There is no retainer and no fee until the clinician starts. The placement fee is a percentage of first-year base compensation, agreed in writing before the search opens, and every placement carries a replacement guarantee.
Do you recruit hospitalists as well as outpatient internists?
Yes. Hospital medicine searches run through our internal medicine team alongside outpatient internist roles, with separate candidate pipelines for each.
Do you recruit primary care for FQHCs and rural sites?
Community health centers and rural programs are a core part of our primary care practice. See our FQHC recruitment page for how those searches differ.
