Urgent Care Recruiting Firm
Urgent care recruiters for walk-in, retail, and urgent care centers
MedStaff Nationwide recruits physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and medical directors for urgent care networks, independent centers, and retail clinics. Shift structure and scope pinned down at intake, candidates screened on real throughput, a 27-day average time-to-fill, and a replacement guarantee on every placement.
We stand behind every placement — any candidate who doesn't complete onboarding is replaced at no cost.
Why urgent care networks work with us
Recruiting built around how an urgent care center actually runs
Urgent care is a volume business staffed mostly by advanced practice providers on twelve-hour shifts, and the clinicians who do it well are specific: comfortable with procedures and plain films, fast without being careless, and happy to work a rotation that includes weekends. A generalist recruiter sends family medicine resumes. We send people who have worked a full lobby.
We recruit the whole roster for a site or a network from one intake: the FNPs and PAs who carry the schedule, the collaborating or site physician the state requires, and the medical director who keeps them. One recruiter owns all of it and reports weekly.
Right now we are running 21 active urgent care searches across 11 states, including Clinton, Coupeville, Flint, and Boston, with posted compensation from $60k–$280k.

Who staffs an urgent care center
The urgent care roles we recruit, and how each search differs
Most urgent care rosters are two-thirds advanced practice providers and one-third physicians, with a medical director over a group of sites. We run each line as its own search with its own screen, inside one engagement.
- Family nurse practitioners
The core of most urgent care rosters. Screened for procedures, pediatric volume, and state scope.
- Physician assistants
Often interchangeable with NPs on an urgent care schedule; we open most searches to both.
- Family and emergency medicine physicians
Site physicians, collaborating physicians for NP-led sites, and physicians who want a shift-based practice without call.
- Medical directors and clinical leaders
Regional and network medical directors who own quality, supervision, and provider retention across sites.
- Interim coverage
Locum tenens physicians, NPs, and PAs for leave, flu season, and new-site openings through MedStaff Locum Tenens.
What makes urgent care recruiting hard
The schedule is the offer
Twelve-hour shifts, weekends, and holidays are what urgent care candidates weigh first. We get the exact rotation, shift count, and float expectations from you before the first candidate call, because a role presented as "full-time" and clarified later loses people.
Volume and scope vary site to site
Forty patients a shift with X-ray and procedures is a different job from fifteen with a referral list. We screen candidates on real throughput, procedural comfort, and how they handle a lobby that is full at 7 p.m.
NP and PA scope is set by the state
A site that runs on nurse practitioners needs a collaborating physician in most states, and a new graduate in a transition-to-practice state cannot be alone on day one. We check the rule for every state you operate in before we search.
Retail and telehealth compete for the same people
National retail clinics and virtual urgent care platforms recruit the same FNPs and PAs with set schedules and no commute. We position your support, pay, and growth path against that, honestly.
Openings come in clusters
A new site needs four to eight providers at once, and a network opening three sites needs them in sequence. We run those searches as one engagement with one recruiter so the pipeline is shared and nobody is presented twice.
Credentialing and payer enrollment set the opening date
State license, DEA, CLIA competencies, and commercial and Medicaid enrollment can take 60 to 120 days. We start the file the day the offer is accepted and manage it with the candidate so the site opens on schedule.
Opening a site
Staffing a new urgent care center before the doors open
A new site needs its providers hired, licensed, enrolled with payers, and, in most states, covered by a collaborative practice agreement before the first patient. Those steps run in sequence and the slowest of them is usually payer enrollment, so a search that starts when the lease is signed is already behind.
We open the search 90 to 120 days ahead of the planned opening, recruit the collaborating physician first where the state requires one, and run the advanced practice searches in parallel. If the opening lands before the last hire starts, MedStaff Locum Tenens covers the gap.
What we settle at intake
- Shift structure. Shift length, shifts per week, weekend and holiday rotation, float between sites, and whether the schedule is fixed or self-scheduled.
- Scope and volume. Expected patients per shift, pediatric share, on-site X-ray and lab, procedures performed, and what gets referred out.
- Supervision. The collaborating or supervising physician, chart review requirements, and ratio limits in each state you operate in.
- Compensation model. Hourly or salaried, shift differentials, productivity or quality bonus, sign-on, and how it compares with the retail clinics down the road.
- Credentialing path. Who owns licensing, DEA, CLIA competencies, and payer enrollment, and the date each has to be done by.

Which one you need
Urgent care recruiting firm, urgent care staffing agency, or a job board
The three get used interchangeably in a search box and do different jobs. Most networks need the first two at different moments.
Recruiting firm
A permanent search run by a named recruiter: direct outreach to providers who are not applying anywhere, scope and procedures verified, interview and offer support, and a hire who becomes your employee for a one-time fee.
Best for: a site opening, a role open more than 60 days, a medical director, or a market where postings bring new graduates only. This page.
Staffing agency
Locum tenens coverage on an hourly bill rate. The provider stays the agency's employee, malpractice is carried by the agency, and the engagement ends when the need does.
Best for: flu season, a leave, or covering a new site until the permanent hire starts. MedStaff Locum Tenens handles this side.
Job boards
A posting that reaches providers who are actively looking this week. Low cost, no screening, and the same applicants every competing network sees.
Best for: FNP roles in strong metro markets where applicants arrive on their own. When a posting has been up 90 days without a hire, it has become a search.

FAQ
Urgent care recruiting, answered
- What does an urgent care recruiting firm do?
- An urgent care recruiting firm finds, screens, and presents clinicians for permanent roles at urgent care centers: physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and medical directors. MedStaff Nationwide runs the full search on contingency, from defining the role and its shift structure through direct outreach, credential verification, interviews, and the offer, and we stay involved through the start date.
- Which urgent care roles do you recruit?
- Family medicine and emergency medicine physicians, family nurse practitioners, emergency and urgent care nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pediatric urgent care providers, regional and site medical directors, and the clinical leaders who run a multi-site network. We also recruit radiologic technologists and clinic nursing leadership for networks that ask.
- How much does urgent care recruiting cost?
- We work on contingency: no retainer and no fee until the clinician starts. The placement fee is a percentage of first-year base compensation, agreed in writing before the search opens, and every placement includes a replacement guarantee. Networks hiring several providers at once get a volume rate.
- Can you staff a new urgent care site before it opens?
- Yes. Opening a site is the most common reason a network calls us. We start the search 90 to 120 days ahead of the opening so credentialing, payer enrollment, and any collaborative practice agreements are done before the first patient, and we can bridge with locum tenens coverage if the permanent hire starts after opening day.
- Do you recruit nurse practitioners and physician assistants for urgent care?
- Yes, and they are the majority of urgent care searches we run. We confirm each candidate's certification, state scope of practice, procedural experience (laceration repair, splinting, I&D, reading plain films), and comfort with pediatric and adult volume before presenting them.
- How do you handle the physician supervision an NP-staffed site needs?
- In reduced and restricted practice states an NP or PA site needs a collaborating or supervising physician, often with chart review and ratio limits. We recruit the collaborating physician or medical director alongside the advanced practice providers when a network needs both, and we tell you at intake which states require it.
- How long does an urgent care search take?
- Our average time-to-fill across permanent clinical searches is 27 days from signed agreement to accepted offer. Advanced practice urgent care searches in metro markets usually close faster; a physician medical director or a site in a rural market can run longer. Your recruiter sets the timeline at intake and reports against it weekly.
- Can you provide locum tenens coverage for an urgent care center?
- Yes. MedStaff Locum Tenens places credentialed physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants for leave, seasonal surge, and open-site coverage, with conversion terms if a locum becomes a permanent hire.
- Do you work with hospital-owned urgent care networks and private equity-backed chains?
- Both, plus independent single-site centers, retail clinics, occupational medicine programs, and FQHC and rural health walk-in programs. The search is the same; the compensation model, supervision structure, and credentialing path differ, and we set those up at intake.
